Some kids enjoy going to basketball camp and others like to play video games. There are some kids that love to build things and learn how to build things. With this in mind, from September 12th to October 19th, 2017 Felling Trailers held 12, one-hour weld camp sessions. This opportunity was made available to ages 12-18 via Sauk Centre Community Education under the instruction of Ben Myhre of Felling Trailers.
During their time attending the camp the four students completed:
- Safety in Welding
- Intro. To Welding
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
- Measurements
- Welding GMAW Short Circuit
- Spray and Pulse
With these skills under their belt, they then completed a final welding project, which consisted of print verification, welding operations, and sanding operations.
Ben Myhre’s Takeaway from Weld Camp
Felling Trailers, Inc. is a community-focused company that is continually looking for ways to take part in offering opportunities that allow for young and old to explore the world of manufacturing. With the main goal in mind for these welding camps being proper safety, basic skills, and to inspire the next generation of welders, it was a job well done. “It is always great to see the next generation of workers interested in welding. There is going to be an extreme shortage of welders in the future. The fact that there are kids below the age of 18 generally interested in welding and building things is great.” said Myhre, Felling’s Weld Training Instructor. Felling Trailers will offer the class at the Welding Training Center at Felling Trailers again via Community Ed in January 2018, and based on interest, hopes to offer the course three or four times each year.
