Felling Trailers has proudly manufactured trailers for over 50 years. Our “Grow with Us Series” highlights the growth of our people and company. We began as a small fabrication shop in downtown Sauk Centre in 1974, and have grown steadily thanks to dedicated employees. In this installment, we feature Spencer Bash, Quality Control Inspector at Felling Trailers, Inc., whose journey shows the many opportunities for growth at Felling.

Before joining Felling Trailers, Spencer spent several years in manufacturing. “I learned to weld at Rotochopper in St. Martin, MN. While there, I also operated two plasma tables and balanced rotors,” Spencer said. Spencer left Rotochopper to help run his father-in-law’s business for about a year while his father-in-law recovered from shoulder surgery. From there, he went on to work at Standard Iron. “I made parts for John Deere, Polaris, and Cummins at Standard Iron for 3 years before joining the Felling team 6 years ago,” said Bash.
Growing Through New Roles
Spencer joined the Felling Trailers team in February of 2019 as a welder on the large semi Weld Production team. Spencer worked in Bay 40, the hydraulic detachable gooseneck build area. The X-Force hydraulic detachable trailers are among the largest semi-trailers Felling manufactures, with capacities ranging from 35 to 60 tons. “I built trailers for 6-8 months, then I was hired as a service technician (working with the Parts & Service department). I did that for 4.5 years. In December of 2024, I took a Quality Control (Inspector) position, and that is my current position to date,” said Spencer.
For the larger part of his time with Felling, Spencer worked as the service technician for Felling’s Parts & Service team. Every day is different when you are a service tech; at the beginning of the week, you can be replacing hubs and drums on a trailer and then tearing down a trailer for a complete refurbishment. “I enjoyed the creative freedom the service position allowed and I had two great supervisors during that time, Scott Brown and Jason Kiley,” stated Spencer. A little more than a year and a half ago, Spencer transitioned to his current role as Quality Control Inspector. “When I took the QC job, I was close to 40 (years old) and was looking for something less strenuous on the body, and it has been a good fit,” said Bash.
Why Felling Fits
When asked what it is about Felling Trailers that makes it where he wants to work, Spencer said,
“The people! As I mentioned, Scott B. and Jason K. were pivotal for me. Scott’s patience and calm demeanor made him very approachable and easy to work with. Jason K. challenged me to be better at the current ERP system and, in retrospect, helped prepare my computer skills for my current position.”
Life Outside of Work
In his free time, Spencer enjoys a collection of hobbies, from making knives, shooting recurve bows, and riding dirt bikes with his kids.
Seeing the Company Grow
Since joining the Felling team in 2019, Spencer has seen and been a part of the many ways the company has changed and grown. We asked him, from his perspective, how the company has changed in his time here? His reply, “That’s a hard question for a quality inspector to answer as we only see what’s wrong every day, LOL, but to stay positive here, I have noticed the new powder coat facility is running well and kicking out quality powder application. I rarely have any issues with powder coat. I feel the weld quality has always been held to a high standard here, as it should! We build the best trailers.”

Antes de unirse a Felling Trailers, Spencer pasó varios años en la industria manufacturera. “Aprendí a soldar en Rotochopper en St. Martin, MN. Crecer a Través de Nuevos Roles
Spencer se unió al equipo de Felling Trailers en febrero de 2019 como soldador en el gran equipo de producción de semisoldaduras. Spencer trabajó en la bahía 40, la zona hidráulica desmontable de cuello de ganso. Los remolques hidráulicos desmontables X-Force están entre los semirremolques más grandes que fabrica Felling, con capacidades que oscilan entre 35 y 60 toneladas. “Construí remolques durante 6-8 meses, luego me contrataron como técnico de servicio (trabajando con el departamento de Repuestos y Servicio). Yo hice eso durante 4.5 años. En diciembre de 2024, acepté un puesto de Control de Calidad (Inspector), y ese es mi puesto actual hasta la fecha.” dijo Spencer.
Durante la mayor parte de su tiempo en Felling, Spencer trabajó como técnico de servicio en el equipo de Piezas y Servicio de Felling. Cada día es diferente cuando eres técnico de servicio; Al principio de la semana, puedes estar reemplazando cubos y tambores en un remolque y luego desmontando un remolque para una reforma completa. “Disfruté de la libertad creativa que me permitía el puesto de servicio y tuve dos grandes supervisores durante ese tiempo, Scott Brown y Jason Kiley”, declaró Spencer. Hace poco más de año y medio, Spencer pasó a su puesto actual como Inspector de Control de Calidad. “Cuando acepté el puesto de QC, tenía cerca de 40 años y buscaba algo menos exigente para el cuerpo, y me ha ido bien”, dijo Bash.
Por qué Felling funciona para mi
Cuando le preguntaron qué tiene Felling Trailers que hace que esté donde quiere trabajar, Spencer dijo:
“¡La gente! Como mencioné, Scott B. y Jason K. fueron fundamentales para mí. La paciencia y la calma de Scott le hacían muy accesible y fácil de tratar. Jason K. me retó a mejorar con el sistema ERP actual y, en retrospectiva, me ayudó a preparar mis habilidades informáticas para mi puesto actual.”
Vida Fuera Del Trabajo
En su tiempo libre, Spencer disfruta de una colección de aficiones, desde fabricar cuchillos, disparar con arcos recurvos y montar en motos de cross con sus hijos.

Desde que se unió al equipo de Felling en 2019, Spencer ha visto y sido parte de las muchas formas en que la empresa ha cambiado y crecido. Le preguntamos, desde su perspectiva, cómo ha cambiado la empresa durante su tiempo aquí. Su respuesta: “Esa es una pregunta difícil para un inspector de calidad porque solo vemos lo que está mal todos los días, jaja, pero para mantenerme positivo, he notado que la nueva instalación de recubrimiento en polvo está funcionando bien y está aplicando polvo de calidad. Rara vez tengo problemas con el recubrimiento en polvo. Siento que la calidad de la soldadura siempre se ha exigido a un alto estándar aquí, ¡como debe ser! Construimos los mejores remolques.”
