We began as a small fabrication shop in downtown Sauk Centre in 1974, and have grown steadily thanks to dedicated employees. In this installment, we feature Jorge Garcia, Lead Welder – Dump Trailers at Felling Trailers, Inc., whose journey shows the many opportunities for growth at Felling.
Hard Work from the Start
Jorge’s story begins in Mexico; he completed his freshman year in school and then came to the United States in 2000. He settled in Minnesota and initially found employment working at Jenni-O and Gold’n Plump’s poultry processing plants, then moved on to working in the paving industry for a period of time. Each job taught him the value of hard work, working with his hands, and working as a team. Those lessons followed him to Felling.
Building a Foundation in Assembly
In February 2017, Jorge joined the Felling Trailers team as an assembler on the Finishing/Final Assembly team. During his time as an Assembler, Jorge learned the final assembly process for more than half of Felling’s many trailer models. He helped bring the final pieces of a trailer together on the production floor. Assemblers are the last step in a trailer’s build process, following checklists and drawings; this is where a trailer receives wiring, lighting, decking, and any bolt-on accessories. He read blueprints, shop drawings, checklists, and job packets to build each trailer to the customer’s specifications. Before a trailer moves on to final inspection, Jorge reviewed its checklist to make sure every task was done. That time in Assembly showed Jorge how a Felling trailer comes together from start to finish, and it gave him a foundation to build on.

Moving on to Learn More
Jorge wanted to keep learning. He left Felling to take a job at Jenkins Iron & Steel, where he furthered his welding skills by fabricating skid steer attachments. Two years later, he came back to Felling with new skills and joined the Project Weld team as a welder.
As a Project Welder, Jorge cuts, fits, and welds components needed for trailer production, following blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate dimensions. The work team members complete in Project Weld helps streamline production when a trailer is in a jig, as the components are ready to be welded to the frame, reducing overall trailer production time. He also checks every weld for penetration and appearance. Controlling heat to prevent warping, distortion, grinding, and gouging, and making sure each part is right the first time are all part of his day, and he keeps safety and quality first throughout. His years in Assembly help here too. He knows how the parts he welds come together on a finished trailer, and he keeps the next team in mind.
Jorge’s most recent move happened in August when he became the Lead Welder in the hydraulic dump trailer build area. When we asked Jorge what motivated his move from Assembly to Project Weld, and now to Lead Welder in Dump, his answer was simple: “Self-improvement and further learning.”

Why Felling?
Jorge has worked in many places, and he knows what he values in a workplace.
A quiet work environment, good working hours, and plenty of teaching and learning opportunities are all reasons why I like working here.
– Jorge
The opportunity to learn and to teach others what he has learned is a big part of why Jorge chose to come back and build his career at Felling.
Growth All Around
Since he first joined the team in 2017, Jorge has seen many changes at Felling, including the new main office and powder coat building. Along with the company, Jorge has continued to grow too, moving from the assembly team to production weld as a skilled welder. We are glad to have Jorge on our team. Thank you for all you do, Jorge!

Pasando a Más Información
