Grow With Us: The People of Felling, Kenny Unger, Senior Welder

Felling Trailers has been proudly manufacturing trailers for 50 years. Join us as we take a look back and see how much our company, along with our employees, has grown. Many of you may already know the story of how Felling Trailers started as a small fabrication shop in downtown Sauk Centre in 1974. Continuing to add to this story, we invite you to read our “Grow with Us Series – 38.” Here, you will meet the people of Felling; we will share a bit about the people who have played a part in what our company is today and where we will be tomorrow. Some people you will meet have been with us for many years, some decades, and others are starting their careers. To continue our series, we want you to meet Kenny Unger, Senior Welder for Felling Trailers, Inc.

Title: Senior Welder

Finding His Place in Welding

Kenny Unger WeldingKenny joined the Felling Trailers Team in the summer of 2005 as part of the weld production team. Before his time with Felling, Kenny had worked at a few area welding shops after graduating from VoTech (Vocational Technical School) in 1975. He worked as a welder doing repair and fabrication for ten years before deciding to go into farming for the next twenty years. As times changed, Kenny returned to welding, choosing Felling Trailers as his place to be, and continued welding for nearly two decades.

Back welding again, through the years, Kenny has worked in several departments; as a welder, there is a bit of flexibility that comes with the position. Based on workflow, trailer orders, and product demand, a welder can work in various build areas, from small trailers to large, specialty, project weld, and repair.

“I worked in just about every area in the shop. I have done just about everything from machining, custom fabrication, warranty, and general repair.”

— Kenny Unger, Senior Welder

Leading a Skilled Team

Weld Production TeamToday, Kenny works as a Senior Welder in Felling’s specialty/custom build area. As a Senior Welder, Kenny works with team members to weld the parts and components for the specific trailer build, ensuring that the product produced meets Felling Trailers’ quality standards and that work is completed to meet the production schedule. In this build area, a team member can build a variety of trailers with very custom features.

“It’s been a good place to work. I have great teammates to work with.”

— Kenny Unger, Senior Welder
